Freight Forwarding Business Upskills In Marketing

After being in business for twenty-two years and accumulating forty staff along the way, a change is coming for Espace Global Freight of Burntwood, Staffordshire: Their Managing Director, Tony Shally, will be leaving the business next year. As Tony has thus far been the member of the team responsible for all the business’ marketing activity, another staff member needed to take up that mantle. This task was given to Sales Manager Kelly Vasey, who has already taken responsibility for Espace’s marketing; in addition, she has been tasked with putting more structure into the business’ marketing approach.

However, Kelly needed some support to help her prepare for her new role.

Fortunately a well-timed email alert informed the Espace team about the Skills Hub, and of the available Training Grants. Upon learning about the grants and discovering they were eligible, the company set about searching for a suitable course for Kelly.

They soon found a Strategic Marketing Mentoring and Training course, which gives participants the opportunity to take part in mentoring and training sessions on Strategic Marketing from a Marketing Consultant. The business was awarded a Skills Hub Training Grant covering 48% of the training cost, allowing them to enrol Kelly on to the course.

Espace Global Freight now has a structured marketing plan and schedule, which Kelly has developed with their Marketing Consultant. They are now also employing their first full-time marketing executive in the business to help Kelly deliver the marketing plan and monthly marketing activity.

When asked whether he’d recommend a Skills Hub Training Grant to others, Tony Shally responded: “100%. Training our staff to be better at what they do is really important to us as a business, as their skills benefit our clients and it’s great for their personal development.”
