Grant Funds Key Training For Electronics Manufacturing Team

One business that has been fortunate enough to receive multiple Skills Hub Training Grants is Midway Contract Electronics, part of the Midway Group of Companies. Despite having a small team, this sub-contract manufacturing partner produces electronic assemblies for many industries, ranging from sports equipment to medical battery packs and gear used in mass spectrometry.

Upon learning about the Skills Hub through Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce soon after the project’s launch, the Midway Group applied for and was awarded their first Training Grant. They went on to receive several more over the years; the latest, funded by Stoke City Council and covering 100% of the training costs, was received by Midway Contract Electronics. The funding went towards training the team’s newest members on the company’s SMT (Surface Mount – Pick & Place Machine) – the machine that picks up all the parts and places them on the circuit board.

When asked what kind of an impact this grant has had on the business, Sales & Marketing Director Rob Colclough explained: “The training is a key part of our production and understanding of the machine. This training is key for us to continue our growth and expansion. As we increase our knowledge we can support all our customers further.” Rob also stated that he would recommend a Skills Hub Training Grant to other businesses, as “it’s a straightforward and simple process, and really allows us to improve whilst supporting our staff with this development of their knowledge and skills within the industry.”
